How to Get a Gynaecological Check-up in NL?

In the Netherlands, routine gynaecological check-ups aren't standard practice. However, if you have concerns or need a check-up, here's how to proceed.

Your first point of contact: Your GP manages most health concerns and can address many gynaecological issues. If specialized care is needed, they'll refer you to a gynaecologist. Good to know! Marlot Peters, has her own Womens Clinic with multiple experts.

Emergency Contraception and Morning-after Pill Access

If you study at BUas you can go to the consultation hours at school, but first you have to register at Huisartenpraktijk Brabantpark

A good website to learn about birth control is anticonceptie.nl. It explains the different types of birth control and helps you choose what might work best for you.

Pharmacies & Drugstores

Emergency contraceptive pills, commonly known as the "morning-after pill," are available without a prescription at pharmacies and drugstores. Brands like Norlevo can be taken up to 3 days (72 hours) after unprotected sex, while ellaOne is effective up to 5 days (120 hours) after. Prices range from €12 to €25.

The General Practitioner

Consultation and Prescription: Your GP can provide advice on emergency contraception and prescribe the appropriate pill if needed. They can also discuss ongoing contraceptive options to suit your needs.

GGD (municipal health service)

Sexual Health Services: GGD offers sexual health services, including information and access to emergency contraception. They can also provide guidance on other contraceptive methods and sexual health concerns. 

How & Where to get Tested for STD's in Breda?

Did you know you can get free STD-testing if you're under the age of 21! This can be completely anonymous and GGD offers this service for you! You can find more information here.
